Granduca and Nerone were the first two stallions bought by the "Istituto di Incremento Ippico" of Foggia. Subsequently it Araldo delle Murge was purchased.These three stallions are considered the ancestors of the Murgese race and the three bloodlines from which they take their names.
Granduca di Martina (1919-1944). Is unanimously considered absolute the breed.
His line kept the features of the Oriental- African type, more than the others : that is to say a conical head, a pyramid-shaped neck well connected and a distinct and elegant gait. He perfomed the function of a stallion from 1931 to 1943 in the Martina Franca breeding station. Among his offspring,Nodo d'Oro (1937-1961)is particulary worthy of mention. The most elegant, distingued and highly prized horses descend from him. Ulisse, above all should be recalled. He is born and raised al the S.Paolo, a Martina Franca farm.
Nume, Strauss, Salomone are born from Ulisse at San Paolo stud farm. At the present theyare considered the most excellent stallions of the race.

Nerone (1934-1946). It is the parent of a line that has heavier-set characteristic than the other two: a ram-like head, a broad croup which is well endowed with muscular masses, short and muscular limbs. The improvement in production that he has brought about is notable. His descendants have carried on this process. Among these, the most significant one is Conte di Conversano (1931-1952), an excellent breed animal, thanks to his longevity as well. Of the many offspring of this latter one, let us recall Baldo (born in 1948), the father of Selim (1962-1967) descendent of Morello which is considered the most important stallion of this bloodline.

Araldo delle Murge (1928-1949). Among his offspring there is Marezzo(1963) the father of a series of extremely important animals, among which is Giove (1953-1972).In this bloodline we recall Bargello and Otello, the both stallions are born in San Paolo stud farm.
